Camelback Park PROGRAM

Entering 3rd - Entering 8th Grade

Camelback Park is our division for campers entering grades 3 through 8, led by our dedicated directors, Jenna and Lionel, also known as “Park Rangers”. Camelback Park focuses on fostering leadership opportunities for our oldest campers, empowering them to take on more responsibility while still enjoying all the fun and adventure Cactus Day Camp has to offer.

Based in a large tented area that serves as their home base, Camelback Park campers start and end each day together with spirited pep rallies and share lunch as a park community. At the end of each day, we give shout-outs to campers who have exemplified our camp values, recognizing their efforts to be leaders and role models.

Campers are grouped by age and gender, with each group led by at least two counselors. Throughout the week, they participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities, including daily swim sessions and the chance for an extra swim during “Campers’ Choice.” Each day at Cactus Day Camp offers something new, as campers rotate through over 30 activities during the two-week session. Whether it’s mastering archery, scaling rock walls, or creating delicious treats in cooking, campers are always engaged in exciting and memorable experiences.

Campers’ Choice is a special time when campers get to decide where they want to go, exploring unique activities, enjoying guest performers, and revisiting their favorite options. This time encourages campers to try new things, sharpen their skills, and connect with campers and staff outside their own group—including siblings. Many activities are coed and multi-age, promoting shared fun and a sense of community.

Park Challenges: Each week, groups vote on which group demonstrated the best leadership qualities. The winning group earns a fun and creative prize, such as pieing a counselor or having a shaving cream fight in the water maze. It’s all about fostering teamwork, leadership, and good-natured fun!

Special Events: Each Friday, the week culminates in an exciting themed day like Carnival Day, Olympic Day, Color Royal, or Water Day, celebrating camp spirit with unforgettable enthusiasm!
